The U16’s lost out to Portumna in the replay of the U16 final on Saturday last in Pearse Stadium.

Once again the game had to go to extra time with the lead changing regularly throughout the game.

Cashel got off to a great start when early on Padraic Casserly goaled after following up on a save from the Portumna goalie. Andrew Connolly followed up with two points and Jamie King was a threat all through. The second half was nip and tuck and just when it seemed that the game had got away from the lads Jamie King levelled after great work by James Glynn.

The game then entered extra time and Portumna were awarded a penalty by referee Eoin Shaughnessy even though a Cashel defender had the ball in his hand. Portumna goaled and from there on they never relinquished the lead despite some brilliant play from the Cashel lads. Unfortunately on the day too many wides cost the lads the game.

The backs of Adam Mooney, Dean Connolly, Kevin Ruane, Cathal Ryan, Aaron Tummon, Mike O’Connell, were brilliant all through. Midfielders Aaron Broderick and Nathan King got through a power of work and forwards Jamie King, Paul Healy, Dara Flynn, Padriac Casserly, Andrew Connolly, Pat O’Boyle and sub James Glynn tried hard. Despite the loss this group of lads have been an example to the club all year. Training since last March, the numbers and commitment from everyone on the panel has been excellent.

Parents should be very proud of all of them and special thanks to team mentors John Connolly , James Costello , Damien O’Brien and Pat Ryan .
