Castlegar U16’s qualified for the U16B championship Final after a close game against Killimor.

Playing against the breeze in the first half, Cashel were on top after leading by 5 points after goals from Aaron Broderick and Nathan King, but just before half time they got caught with a sucker punch of a goal to leave just 2 points between the teams at half time. This goal seemed to spur Killimor on and they really put it up to the lads in the second half getting the first score.

Another goal from Andrew Connolly seemed to settle the nerves for Cashel but Killimor replied again with another goal to leave 1 point between the teams. Pat O’Boyle pointed again and with 1 minute remaining Killimor scored a free. With the minimum between the teams, Cashel won the resultant puck-out and held possession and ran out winners by 1 point much to the delight of their loyal supporters who travelled to Ballinasloe to support the team.

Best on the day were Dean Connolly, Aaron Tummon, Mike O’Connell, Nathan King, Andrew Connolly, Padraig Casserly and Dara Flynn. They now meet Portumna in the final and the lads know they will have to really improve their performance. Well done to all the players and management. The final is due to be played on Saturday 01st October.
