Our U16-A season finally came to a close on Saturday (Nov 16th 2013) with the lads winning the shield final against Turloughmore in fine style.

They got off to a great start with two early goals and two points putting them in charge on the scoreboard. Turlough recovered well and dominated possession for much of the first half, but crucially could not get the points they needed and never threatened the goal. Cashel tacked on two more points before the break to lead on a scoreline of 2:04 to 0:07. Castlegar upped their performance in the second half and had the better the game until the result was well beyond doubt. A goal for Turloughmore suggested a comeback might be on the cards, but Cashel replied with a goal almost immediately to snuff that out. A fourth goal late on set the seal on a 4:14 to 1:08 victory. With just three players on their final year at this age, it was a great achievement to be so competitive all season and the lads thoroughly deserved this win. Well done to manager Murt Connolly, all the mentors, team captain Conor Folan, all the players and Jack Coyne who picked up the man of the match award.
