On Thursday April 12 our under twelve's became the first Castlegar players in many years to play hurling in Croke Park.

They took part in a 'Go Games' tournament involving several other Galway clubs. The day was a great success and hugely enjoyed by all. It started early for the twenty four players and an equal number of coaches, parents and supporters with a bus journey direct to Croke Park. While the supporters found their seats the players togged out in the Cusack Stand dressing rooms. The players were divided into two teams of equal ability. Each team played three twenty minute games, nine a side with three subs. The subs were rotated to ensure all players got equal time on the pitch. One team played Liam Mellows, Kiltormer and Tommy Larkins, while the other played Mullagh, Kiltormer and Meelick Eyrecourt.

To the delight of their followers the teams showed no sign of being overawed by their famous surroundings and the hurling they produced encouraged us all to hope the at least some of this group will return to play in this great stadium again. But whether they do or not, they certainly made the most of this opportunity with some great teamwork and many superb individual displays. The games were followed by lunch for the players, a stadium tour and finally a visit to the GAA museum.

Many thanks are due to all who made the trip possible in the first place and those whose work made it such a success on the day. Thanks to Coiste Iomána na nÓg Co. na Gaillimhe, for selecting Castlegar to take part in the tournament and to all at Croke Park for their assistance on the day. No club outing would be complete without a visit to Supermac's, so thanks to Supermac's Moate for their hospitality. Special thanks to U12 manager Tom Pollard and U11 manager Tony Neary who took care of everything at the Castlegar end and to the coaches and parents who helped out on the day. But most of all thanks to the players whose behaviour on and off the field was a credit to themselves, their families and the club. The players were, in no particular order;

Dylan Carroll, Darren Costello, Peter Coyne, Adam Walsh, Gearoid Pollard, Rory Tummon, Mark Coyne, Liam O'Reilly, Aaron Connolly, Caomhin Conway, Tomas O'Connell, Ciaran Connor, Mark Gill, Ethan Connolly, Oisin Flaherty, Cian Hynes, Fergus Ruane, Hugh Kilgannon, Sean Neary, Shane Murphy, Mark Pollard, Mark Hanley, James Smith and Andrew King.

Below are a few photos from the day. We hope to add more over the coming days.
